Audience vs Critic
Happy Bhag Jayegi has been received with half-hearted enthusiasm. The star cast didn’t make for too many filled seats in theatres on the film’s release, but since then it has picked up well. Critics have ho-hummed Happy Bhag Jayegi, saying it’s the supportive cast that takes the cake while Diana Penty is so-so.
Script & Plot
Diana is shown as a runaway bride from Amritsar who lands up in Lahore, at Abhay Deol’s place, who takes it upon himself to get Diana and Ali Fazal married in Pakistan. The scripting was done to induce laughter and sometimes tried too hard. Although, Jimmy and other supporting characters did well to maintain the comic spirit of the film. There were some whistle worthy dialogues about India and Pakistan that didn’t go unnoticed.
Diana Penty’s character has similarities with Anand L Rai’s Tanu from Tanu Weds Manu, although she’s not the same in energy and steadfastness. Seems like Diana had prepared for the role. But, it was the supporting cast that really impressed us throughout the film!
The music of Happy Bhag Jayegi goes well with the spirit of the film and helps maintain its energy, when sometimes, the plot loses it.
