National Awards are one of the most prestigious and revered award that can be won in the entertainment history. Yesterday evening saw a glittering 63rd National Awards ceremony held in the capital at Vigyan Bhavan. This year Bollywood secured wins in major categories Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Movie to name a few.
Here are a few highlights from the ceremony.
This Indian magnum opus directed by SS Rajamouli managed to bag the National Award for the best film of the year. The award was received by the director SS Rajamouli. The sequel to this mega blockbuster is all-set to release in 2017.
Known to weave dreams on screen, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Bajirao was 12 years in making. This movie managed to enthrall the audience and became a major success with few weeks of its release.
Reprising her role as the spit-fire, wild child, Kangana Ranaut returned to the silver screen as Tanu in the sequel to the hit, Tanu Weds Manu. This national award is second year in the row for the actress, who won it last year for Queen.
Shahenshaah of Bollywood manages to light up every frame he is in with his charismatic presence, so when he came on the screen as a senile old-man, he was very well-loved. This is the fourth national award won by the actor. Amitabh was accompanied by his family for this special ceremony.
Tanvi Azmi effortlessly essayed this role of Radhabai in Bajirao Mastani, a charcter with many flaws. This is the first award won by the actress
Bajrangi Bhaijaan managed to win hearts not only in India, but also across border. This movie by Kabir was a story of triumph of humanity over borders and politics, director Kabir Khan was present at the ceremony to receive the award.
This heart-warming song from Dum Laga Ke Haisha, left a mark on everyone. The conversational lyrics and beautiful melody were accentuated by Monali’s vocals.
Talvar was awarded for the gritty and gripping screenplay, Vishal Bharadwaj was present at the ceremony to collect the award.
This movie exemplifies the triumph of human spirit and strength. Kalki who essay the role of Laila, left us all teary-eyed by the time the credits roled.
Ritika Singh, who is a professional boxer, made her debut in Irudhi Suttru (Saala Khadoos). She was personally trained by Madhavan for this role and has now received national award for the same.
This cute love story of, as Ayushmann puts it, a loser and a chubby girl, set in the 1990s has won many hearts and a National Award!
