A minute into the trailer of the film, and you are hooked! The movie opens with a family going off for a vacation, and what transpires during that vacation. Based on true events, the movie is set in the quaint (sleepy?) town of McCluskiegunj in Jharkhand, in the year 1979.
Boasting of the stellar star-cast, the movie has actors like Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Om Puri, Tillotama Shome, Tanuja and Vikrant Massey, and is Konkana SenSharma’s directorial debut, however, the actress has donned the directorial hat for a short-film titled Naamkaran before. By the looks of it, Vikrant Massey possibly plays as the protagonist and shares a peculiar relationship with each character of the story.
Apart from the stunning visuals what attracts one to the plot is the hauntingly beautiful background score that complements the tonality and the tempo of the film. The myriad characters and their complex inter-personal relationships form the base of the narrative. However, what sets the story apart from the various other Hindi thrillers that we have been accustomed to, is the absence (thankfully!) of jump cuts, zoom-ins and tacky background score.
The film is all set to premiere at the coveted Toronto International Film Festival, alongside movies like La La Land, American Beauty and Snowden.
