Priyanka Chopra, who started out from the small town of Barielly today has become a global phenomenon. Priyanka started her journey with becoming Miss India, and she today holds the honour of being the youngest Indian recipient of the fourth-highest Indian Civilian award, Padma Shri. On the occasion of her birthday, here is a look at Priyanka’s journey.
In 2002, Priyanka made her silver screen debut in the Tamil film, ‘Thamizhan’. In this year, she also started prepping for her Bollywood debut.
Priyanka made her Bollywood debut as the second female lead in the movie ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy’. In the same year, she appeared in a love triangle ‘Andaaz’, alongside Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta, where she upped the glamour quotient of the movie.
Priyanka starred in the romantic comedy, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ alongside, Salman and Akshay Kumar. The movie proved to be a big commercial success. In the same year, the actress also starred in the thriller ‘Aitraaz’, playing probably one of the strongest female antagonist in Bollywood.

Brand Priyanka only continued to grow, as the actress starred in two of the biggest box-office successes, the superhero film ‘Krrish’, and the action-thriller ‘Don’.
Pausing her golden run at the box-office, Priyanka delivered three consecutive duds over three years, ‘Big Brother’ (2007), ‘Love Story 2050’ (2008), and ‘Drona’ (2008). Though all the movies were big-budget, they disappeared without a trace. However, in the late 2008 Priyanka re-emerged from the dry-spell with movies like, Fashion and Dostana, which helped her cement her position as a hero’ in the industry.
Priyanka proved her mettle as a solo-hero in the 2011 and beautifully carried off a movie like ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’, which went on to become a critical hit.
In 2012, she starred in ‘Barfi!’, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz. Her performance as Jhilmil, went on to receive rave reviews and the film was a major success. It was also in the same year, in which the actress released her first international single, ‘In My City’, featuring rapper Will.I.Am. She also performed the single at the 2013 NBA kick-off.
This is the year she started actively working towards a career in Hollywood. While still on top of her game in Bollywood. A risky exercise as it reduced the number of films per year.
Priyanka returned to her hit movie ‘Krrish 3’, which went on to become a blockbuster. She also proved her dancing prowess as she did two chartbuster item numbers, ‘Babli Badmaash Hai’ and ‘Ram Chahe Leela’. She also released her second single ‘Exotic’, featuring Pitbull.
Priyanka starred as the main lead in ‘Mary Kom’, a biographical film about the five-time female world boxing champion and Olympic bronze medalist, Mary Kom. The film was a critical and commercial success, and the actress also won the National Award for the same.
Priyanka established herself as a major International star and went to play the lead role in the hit US TV series, Quantico. Back home. The actress impressed everyone with her acting and dancing skills as Kashibai in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed period drama, Bajirao Mastani.
Priyanka started her year on a beautiful note, as she became the youngest recipient of the fourth-highest civilian honour, Padma Shri. The fans of the actress have a lot to look forward to, as the actress is all set to return with the second season of Quantico.
