Bollywood is famously known for its high intensity drama in reel as well as real life, but today Bollywood is way beyond films and film stars. Today we don’t just spot celebrities during shoots; they can be spotted on a sports field too. Celebrities from quite some time have started venturing outside Bollywood and into the world of sports. Be it Cricket, Kabbadi or Football, our celebrities have shown keen interest in sports by either owning a team or by just supporting one. While marriage between Bollywood and cricket have sustained for long, other sports too have got caught the fancy of our celebrities. And it is since then that our celebrities have begun venturing into sports that games like Kabbadi and Football have gained prominence amongst the masses.
Talking about celebrity venturing into owning sports team, Indian Premiere League (IPL) has always been in news, some for good and some bad. While these celebrities are known to have taken the scorching heat to a level too high with their on-field shenanigans, we present to you a list of Bollywood celebrities who have supported sports by investing in a cricket, kabbadi, hockey, or a football team.
King Khan owns the Indian Premiere League team Kolkatta Knight Riders, and has always been seen on the field cheering the boys. The team was also co-owned by Juhi Chawla, but SRK remains the face of the team. The actor has always been known to have a certain charm on his audience, and in support of his team he had the whole of India croon to Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re, even the non-supporters hummed along. If his charm was not enough accompanies him his youngest son AbRam who with his cuteness has been spreading smiles ever since.
Unlike the many stars of Bollywood who have invested in cricket teams, Abhishek Bachchan rather walked the unconventional path and invested in owning a Kabbadi team. He owns the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the Pro-Kabbadi League and led the team to a win in the opening season. Abhishek’s love for sports doesn’t end here; he is also a football fanatic and so he is often seen playing along the other actors in their usual Sunday matches.
Priety Zinta has always lived in the true spirit of sportsmanship as she continues to support the Kings XI Punjab even after they in the last eight seasons have not been successful in taking the IPL trophy home. Preity have remained a constant support for the team, and now her husband Gene Goodenough too was spotted in India to support the team during their highs and lows.
Sonakshi Sinha recently bought a team in the World Kabbadi League- The United Singhs. While she has always had keen interest in sports, it really doesn’t come as a surprise that she has invested in a Kabbadi team.
Known for performing daredevilry on screen, Akshay Kumar who performs all his stunts on his own is quite a sportsman himself. Just like Sonakshi, Akshay too has bought a team in the World Kabbadi League called the Khalsa Warriors. While Akshay’s love for fitness is evident through his body, his investment in a Kabbadi team only shows what a sport enthusiast he is.
This boy quite knows his game, and he plays it well too. In a country where cricket is worshipped, Ranbir Kapoor who is a great fan of football chose to promote the game of football instead. He invested in the Mumbai franchise of the Indian Super League, and through this he hopes to make football a prominent game in India.
John Abraham’s love of football is driven way back to the days when he did a film named Goal. John is often spotted with other celebrities playing football matches on Sunday. A true believer of fitness, John just like Ranbir has invested in the Guwahti franchise of Indian Super League.
Along with her husband Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty owns the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premiere League. While they got glory in the very first season of the league, the team has ever since been in good form on field. Shilpa and Raj too have often been spotted on field supporting the players and have been a constant support to them in their thick and thins.
