Despite a whole lot of awareness campaigns against smoking, tobacco abuse continues to rampant in the country. And while many of Bollywood’s icons have joined the campaign, some have been trying to kick the butt themselves. Unfortunately, even as they talk about its ill effects and their desire to quit, a certain few have not been able to kick the cigarette butt yet.
Randeep is the latest actor to announce that he is has renewed his efforts to stop smoking again. Back in 2012 the actor confessed to being a chain smoker and his desire to give up. "It's been very difficult. I used to smoke three times more when I was on the sets, especially between the shots. Now, I drink water, eat something or chew a gum when I am really tempted to light up. I started smoking at a very early age, even before I was 18. But I am yet to conquer my temptation fully,” he says talking about his efforts.
SRK tops of the list of celeb chain smokers hands down. He is open about his addiction and his desire to let it go. Once SRK revealed that he finishes 4 packs of cigarette in a single day. The habit has in fact even got him into legal troubles at times, and he has been fined for the same. Despite several trials, SRK still has not managed to get away with his addiction.
The Singham actor is next in list. He is one actor we have seen light up on stick after other. And similar to SRK, Ajay Devgn finds it very difficult to quit smoking. Despite continuous requests from his wife Kajol and daughter Nysa, Ajay has not been able to kick this hazardous habit. He too apparently has been fined several times for smoking in public premises.
Salman Khan may have conquered the box office repeatedly over the years, but smoking is one odd that he has failed to defeat. Though the Dabangg star wishes youngsters never see him smoking lest they get motivated to try smoking themselves. Of late there have also been reports that the 51 year old actor has given up alcohol and the smoke post his treatment for nerve ailment last year. “"I'm trying to quit smoking. Once you quit, there are also chances of picking it up again because when you find people around you smoking, you join them to be with them. But it slowly and slowly kills you and people stop only when they are advised by the doctor. So everyone should quit it before reaching that stage,” he had said once when questioned on his habit.
A self confessed chain-smoker, Irrfan Khan started smoking while doing his first play but ended up picking the ugly habit. He wants to kick the dangerous habit, which he calls his biggest disappointment but can’t resist his daily dose of deadly nicotine. “In fact, I also smoked beedis at one point of time in the foolish hope that they were less harmful," Irrfan says talking about his efforts to give up.
Few people know that Ranbir Kapoor is a heavy smoker and finds extremely and has been trying to kick off the butt. Apparently during the shooting of Raajneeti, director Prakash Jha had a tough with Ranbir because of his smoking breaks in between shots. Ranbir Kapoor has been trying hard to quit smoking but always fails to maintain his resolution. The ‘Barfi’ actor was even fined for smoking in public and was reportedly accused of violating the Rajasthan Prevention of Smoking Act.
Sanjay Dutt has always been in the news for wrong reasons. From abusing drugs at a young age to being addicted to Marlboro cigarettes to a point where he was even allowed to smoke in prison during his jail term, Dutt has done it all. Despite many attempts, the actor failed to quit and is often spotted drinking and smoking heavily in parties and sets of his movies.
Well we hope these super stars manage to succeed in their endeavour and join the campaign towards a healthier, tobacco-free, life, inspiring the youth to do the same.
