You were the creative producer on Pink, while Anirudha Roy Chowdhury directed it. Do you get possessive about the film in such cases?
I am very possessive. I am there as a part of the film. There is no doubt that Tony (Aniruddha) has made some wonderful films in Bengali. He is talented and he is responsible for this film and even answerable for this film. However, when I work as a creative producer I do everything in the creative department. I become a very good associate director. I interfere a lot. And Tony accepts my interference. If this was another director he would have ran away! I must add, we are a democratic set-up. Everyone is allowed to express opinions and we work on them.
Pink was your third film with Mr Bachchan. Everyone talks about his enthusiasm. How young would say he is?
Amitabh Bachchan is quite young. He is sometimes a 12-year-old. And sometimes he is 17. On our sets, we had at least ten young actors and actress and Mr Bachchan would not leave them. They would all be together. He would be talking with them, laughing with them! Like young boys have toys, Mr Bachchan gets excited about the script. Once you have given him a script it’s like you have given him a toy. He gets so involved with it. It is incredible to watch him working. You know, the present generation of directors write for him. They all look forward to work with him. Every director, from Sujoy to Anurag, both the Anurags, want to write for him. Isn’t this a fortunate time that we are writing for him?
You agree that he has changed the industry?
Oh yes, of course he has. There is no doubt. No argument. He is a legend and he is standing there like a backbone of this industry.
Does it hurt that Shoebite has not released?
Yes, it does. But we hope it releases soon. Any film you do, for everyone who has worked upon it, is hurtful that it is lying unreleased. It is disheartening. We are at it, we have hope.
Another film, RunningShaadi.com , made under your banner has been lying unreleased.
It will release soon. It was supposed to release last year. But that’s fine. It is still a pretty timeless and both Tapsee and Amit (Sadh) are very good in the film.
