Shah Rukh Khan

Basking in the glory of his recent hits, Salman Khan is quite a charmer when it comes to pleasing his audiences on Eid. All his films are scheduled for an Eid release, and it is at that time the theatres run out of seats. After all, who doesn’t want to watch Bhai ki picture? And as we await his next release Sultan, here is an interaction with Salman talking about his film, stardom, and life:
You need to have certain physicality to train to be a pehelwan. Aamir Khan and I both have trained extensively to look the part. Perhaps we have trained more than the wrestlers so as to be able to fight them in the ring. We used to shoot the film for six to seven hours, and in those six hours we were only wrestling. You look like a fraud if you don’t train properly. If I had to pick up a 120 kilos person, I would have to do it 10 times for it to be shot in five different angels. In a wrestling match it happens only once or twice, but to do the same thing 10 times… In those many hours it was either I picking him up and throwing or either he picking me up and throwing, it was the most difficult thing. When I used to walk out of that ring, I used to feel like a raped women walking out.
Ali didn’t know anything about bodybuilding, I don’t think he has once gone to a gym in his entire life. So while shooting Ali wanted a different body type every 20 days. He sometimes wanted me to play the young bit, sometimes the old bit; sometimes he wanted the fit bit, and sometimes the unfit bit. In a span of two months he wanted four body types, and so from where should I get him that. Halwa hai kya? Aamir ka aacha tha, body bana li aur ab che mahine aaram se hai (laughs).
It is the most difficult film I’ve ever done. There is no appreciation for the physical hard work that you invest in a film, today the technology has gone so far that even if you are not fit physically, one can use technology to make you look fit. This is the time when I will have to do more hard work to be successful, because if you noticed the stars who came before us saw a downfall at a similar phase. I saw a film of mine, and I saw a close-up and that is when I said to myself ‘gaya bhai tu’. When I’m only not liking the way I'm looking, how is anyone else going to like it.
Everyone fears losing stardom, I would be lying if I said otherwise. It is not the stardom that I fear losing, it is the love and respect. One day it hits you that suddenly it’s all over. But then you should be that man who knows how to deal with it. I have seen my father go through it twice in his life, I myself have gone through that. I think life is more than just being a star or a hero in movies.
It was luckily or rather unluckily that Shah Rukh Khan's film got postponed because it was not ready. But if both of us would have come together, then we both would have had no choice but to share the revenue. And because of the egos of the producers and their fight for the dates, we both like idiots would have to share the same faith as Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale did.
If we do things right by increasing our theatres and decreasing our ticket pricing, then take it in writing from me that in our lifetime as heroes we will see a 100 crore first day.
