Every time there is a mention of Katrina Kaif, the mention of her personal life, especially that of her relationships, is inevitable. Since her debut in the industry, the actress has been in discussion as much for her film choices, as for her relationships. Katrina’s first major relationship, which was much-talked about was her relationship with Salman Khan. So much so, it was one of Bollywood's most talked about relationship. Though the two never confirmed what happened, here is a look at what happened.
Bollywood is a tough place to be, especially when you have no backing to fare you through the tumultuous introduction phase in the industry. But, when you happen to have someone like Salman Khan backing you, connections, language problems, everything sorts itself out. Katrina Kaif, who was a model when she made her debut with the dud, ‘Boom,’ for the lack of better word, was lost. The actress was then taken under his protective wings by the Bhai of Bollywood, Salman Khan. So, while Kaif was busy brushing up her language and dance skills, Salman took care of her housing, permit etc. The two got close, and were often seen hanging out at restaurants and at each other’s houses. Though the two never confirmed the fact, there was a telling in their silence.
Their first on-screen appearance was a hit! The two lovebirds were often spotted at events together, and this was an enough indication of their relationship. The audience loved seeing them together, and people were happy that their beloved Bhai was finally in love. Although the duo made public appearances, they didn’t talk about each other to the media. The relationship was in its mills-and-boon phase, the pair was very happy, and enjoying the days of courtship.
As Katrina’s family was settled abroad, she would often miss her family in Mumbai, and hang out with the Khans. In fact, Katrina was very close to Salman’s sister, Alvira and, his mother, Salma. When Katrina used to be shooting on sets, Salma would make sure that Katrina is taking care of herself, and send the famous dabba on sets. If the reports are anything to go by, few years into the relationship, Katrina was very much a part of the Khan household, and she was treated like the future daughter-in-law. Everyone in the industry and otherwise thought Salman would finally settle down.
There was no stopping the two lovebirds. The two went on to star in the David Dhawan-directed, ‘Partner’, which was a commercial success, and Subhash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj, which was a major dud. Katrina was also one mongst the many Salmann heroines, who had walked the ramp for Salman’s Being Human fashion launch. It was the year 2008, and by then Katrina had become a star in her own right. She had become a known face and was being wooed by directors and producers, for their movies. It was then in 2008 when Katrina had signed up for Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.’
It was then that the rumours of Katrina dating Ranbir Kapoor started doing the rounds. Apparently, sparks flew on the sets of ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ (2009), but both the actors rubbished the rumours as they were in relationships with Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone respectively. It was then when the cracks in Salman and Katina’s relationship began to appear.
Just when there were rumours of the two shifting into a new house, the reports that relationship had gone kaput started making headlines. It was for reasons yet unknown the two parted ways in 2010. Some say it was Salman’s possessive nature, it is even said that towards the end, Salman started dictating their relationship. Some say that Katrina was finally a star, and had found better company and companion in Ranbir. Salman and Katrina, who never confirmed their relationship in public, made sure that their break-up was clean as possible. It is said that at some point after their break-up, Salman in an inebriated state went outside Katrina’s house and created a ruckus, he kept on yelling that she will regret leaving him for Ranbir. But, as far as the truth goes, both adopted a radio silence and spoke about their professional commitments when quizzed by the media.
Though the two might have broken up, but they continue to remain friends. Katrina is still a common presence in all the functions of Khan-daan. She co-starred with Salman in Ek Tha Tiger, and even went to promote ‘Fitoor’, on Salman’s Bigg Boss. Katrina was also spotted at Arpita’s wedding in Hyderabad, and at a recent screening of Sultan. Also, if the stories are to be believed, Salman is all set to throw a lavish party for Katrina on the occasion of her upcoming birthday!
