It all started with a statement Kangana made during an interview when she asked about her ouster from Aashiqui 3, and soon it became an out of proportion blown affair. Hrithik and Kangana by then had begun slyly tweeting about each other giving away more than the required amount of fodder. It’s simple yet complicated; first it involved two people and now a country. Are we from within fighting the same battle as they? Have we already constructed our opinions on an issue totally irrelevant to us?
It wasn’t going to stop there. Hrithik filed for a legal battle against Kangana which accounted her for defamation. Kangana too set her lawyer to work. The spark now turned into fire was going to burn down many houses. Bollywood wasn’t coming off clear with the happening, nobody wanted to comment. Kangana and Hrithik too refrained from public appearances and all we did hear were statements made by their lawyers.
Further on both of them took to the public to clean their dirty linens. Media’s involvement added to their fury, their angst was not going to die soon. Hrithik who has currently been out of business seemed to have made a comeback, and as for Kangana, her performances doing the talking. One might call it a publicity stunt, but of this manner has never happened before.
What once started out as a starry eyed affair has now become a nasty legal battle. While the case is still being investigated, the couple’s private details have now become public. And what better than these details printed on the front pages of well-known newspapers. It must have really spiked the morning tea with a handful of masala.
According to the piece of news, printed on the front page were the emails that Kangana had sent to Hrithik or rather an imposter who had created the id. Kangana’s desperate attempts to grab Hrithik’s attention came clear, and so Kangana’s ill-being as she mentioned she suffered from Asperger syndrome. An indication of what we thought was just another Bollywood couple parting ways, the deeper we got into the matter, the messier it became.
Next day a competitive newspaper that no more wanted to leave any stone unturned on its first page had an image of the emails exchanged between Kangana’s sister Rangoli and Hrithik. The emails suggested that Kangana was sending emails to a fake account. With the case already in court these emails turned out to be explosives in the world of entertainment.
Lawyers are giving out statements, websites are posting pictures, and newspapers are printing personal details. Since the case is ongoing many such details await their release, and more fodder is yet to be fed. But the question arises of whether, should the media as an entity be taking sides?
With so many opinions coming fore, we don’t know whom to believe and whom not to. Or rather shouldn’t the two just cut short the controversy, and amicably resolve. We leave things for the two to decide, but till then the not-so-soon ending battle is surely going to take more lives.
