Do you intend to say adultery is fine?
And when you are in a relationship, in a marriage, in which you are devoting yourself to somebody you should not do it. But you can be in an open relationship and no one is going to judge you. I am nobody to preach, but if you want to be in an open relationship do that. I know of a lot of people in open marriages and they seem to be okay with it. I personally will not be okay with it. I am not okay with sharing my man with anybody. If I see a woman looking at my man I would claw her eyes out. He is my man and you don’t get to look at him that way. Yes, I am a very possessive woman (laughs).
So when was the last time that happened? When you had to push a woman off?
A month ago! I did not claw her eyes out, but I did give her the look, which said ‘back off’.
What’s your take on doing more serious films versus the potboilers that make lots of money?
I have always conflicted on that. I read the critic reviews and some of the films are really bashed to another level. But commercially they have done stupendously well. So the question is do you want to do a film like that, or do a film where critics say I was amazing. I don’t know. I have done such (potboilers) films in the south. May be here, I just don’t want to do a film that would make me cringe when I watch it. I have probably been picky about the films I do.
Is that why we are seeing you after so long? Your last film was Happy Ending!
I thought Happy Ending was my ending. It was the longest I had not done a film. I am not the sort of person who would sit and cry that I don’t have a film in hand. But there was moment where I figured that I can either be upset that I don’t have film in hand or maybe just look at other career options. I was honestly, realistically thinking about it. It is very fickle. I don’t know whether tomorrow I will have a film or not. I try being as realistic as possible about it. I don’t live this life where I need to be a film-star to sustain it. I have a very simple life and I can switch off just like that. I think to an extent Akshay makes sense when he says I need to be seen a lot more and do a lot more films.
