What if you wake up and do not remember who you are? What if you are made to search for your identity with no one to help you in the same? This is the premise that Fever works on. A premise that makes for a valid suspense thriller.
A man wakes up in a hospital, evidently after an accident, and all he remembers is that his name is Armin Salem and that he knows someone called Rhea. He sets out to find more about himself and in course he figures that he was possibly a contract killer. He was a rather stylish mercenary, with great taste in clothes and women. Along the way he meets someone called Kavya who falls in love with him, even as she shows some mysterious traits.
The screenplay keeps you in guess till the midpoint. It is only after the intermission that the screenplay starts falling apart. As Armin Salem finds other identities he realizes that someone is possibly trying to manipulate what he remembers.
The movie does not answer a lot of things. One of these questions is, why is the film set in Europe. While they have filmed the story in quaint localities of France and Switzerland, the locations in themselves do not add up to anything in the story. The same story could have very well been done in India. There are far bigger problems of course. Like, what was the use of getting former Bond girl Caterina Murino? The character given to Caterina has no significance in the story. Likewise the characters of Rhea (Gemma Atkinson) and Kavya (Gauhar Khan) are rather sketchy and drafted conveniently. The screenplay lacks depth for the same reason.
The final revelation arrives without any thrill and lacks impact. Having said the suspense for most part of the film sustains interest. Rajeev Khandelwal as Armin Salem is sincere. As an actor Rajeev possibly deserves more. The film does not offer him much of a challenge, and he does not find much difficulty in carrying what he has been provided. Gauhar Khan is not half as convincing. Surprisingly, Gemma Atkinson is!
Fever is a decent one-time watch if you are sucker for suspense thrillers. This is not the best thriller you may watch this season, but it will keep you hooked for most part. For others, this film may come across as drab.
