Bollywood has for been around for over a century now and has constantly defined and set the standards of romance for every generation. However, there are a few tried and tested methods and formulae that Bollywood has adopted that work like a charm on-screen (and off-screen too, hopefully!)
Here is chronicling the journey of love across a century in Bollywood
There are tons of example of this category of movies, must popular being Maine Pyaar Kiya and Dil Toh Paagal Hain. This concept was beautifully explained by Shah Rukh Khan in the movie, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, “Agar who meri sabse acci dost nahin ban sakti, toh main use pyaar nahin kar sakta.” Well, there is no other way to explain this beautiful concept of experiencing your friendship turning in to something more.
Taking the same formula forward and twisting it a little bit, we have the concept of ‘Wo Meri Sab Se Acchi Dost Hain”, which is wonderfully elucidated in movies like, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa and Kuch Kuch Hota Hain. There is nothing as wonderful as the joy of falling in love with this person who knows you the best, the person who makes a bad day good, and with whom you talk till moon goes down. There are fewer joys in life which are as fulfilling as that of falling in love with your bestfriend!
Sometimes love is not instanteous and takes time to develop, as shown in the movies like Namastey London and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. This love is further fuelled by the fire of patience and time. It is the joy of discovering and understanding each other as they embark on this journey of togetherness, arranged by the parents.
Love is an unbroken tie that spans across the space of time and universe, how else can you explain the concept of janam janam ka pyaar! There are umpteen movies like Om Shanti Om and Karz, and even TV series built along this concept, where it is only one look of the lover, and the re-incarnated hero remembers everything.
They hate each other with passion, but very soon this anger turned into a fiery love story! Bollywood is replete with examples of such love stories where two people are brought up to hate each other or begun to hate each other (like Ramleela or Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge), only to realize that their feelings for each other run deeper than that of hate.
They meet each other and sparks fly a la 2 States and Dil Dhadakne Do! It is one of these lucky forms of love where two people just know that they are perfect for each other and then all the hell breaks loose!
