Amrish Puri was one of the most loved villain and one of the most respected actors of Indian cinema. Puri is remembered for his iconic role as the ‘Mogambo’ in the 1987 film Mr India specially because of the dialogue “Mogambo khush hua.” Amrish Puri was was born on June 22, 1932, in Pakistan and today would have been his 84th birthday. He passed away on January 12, 2005. Puri was known for his unique voice and powerful personality. Amrish Puri played a strict father to Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The most remembered and iconic scene in the movie is the climax of the film, where Puri mouths the dialogue, “Ja Simran, jeele apni zindagi”. The scene is very emotional as it shows how a strict and cold-hearted father’s heart melts seeing the plight of his daughter Simran. He finally lets her go with the love of her life.
‘Mogambo’ was by far one of the most frightful villian. Amrish Puri, who played Mogambo in Anil Kapoor and Sridevi starrer Mr India, can be called as the legendary villain of Bollywood. Mogambo was the powerful evil scientist who had a kingdom of his own which he created with his wicked practices. His character was hated by all the moviegoers but Amrish Puri’s acting was loved by one and all. Puri was seeing mouthing the daiglogue “Mogambo khush hua” in the film.
Amrish Puri played the unrelenting father of Sakina (Ameesha Patel) in one of the biggest blockbusters of cinema Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Amrish Puri was believed to be dead in the riots, but Sakina discovers him to be alive as Mayor of Lahore. He plays the role of an opposing father who is unwilling to accept Hindu-Indian son-in-law Sunny Deol. After objecting until the very end and even shooting his daughter by mistake, he finally accepts Sunny Deol leading to a happy ending. The dialogues in the film mouthed by Amrish Puri and Sunny Deol are powerful.
Ghayal was a 1993 film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi starring Meenakshi Sheshadri, Rishi Kapoor, Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. In this film, Puri played the role of a criminal lawyer who can go to any extent for the sake of money. In the film, he is seen as a very mean man who did not hesitate to discuss the rape details as a lawyer in the courtroom.
Amrish Puri played the role of the Chief Minister you loved to hate. Anil Kapoor plays the role of Shivaji Rao, a fearless television news reporter who gets the chance to interview Chief Minister Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri). Balraj Chauhan's answer is a mocking invitation to Shivaji Rao to become the Chief Minister for one day and see what he can do turns out to be one of his biggest mistakes as Shivaji Rao accepts.
