Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Sultan is on a record breaking spree. First it was to release on Eid which was decided to be on July 6, but with Eid later on July 7 the movie was thought will face loses. But the movie did really well on a non-holiday opening. The first day collection surpassed the collection of many other non-holiday and holiday collections. Here is the list of Bollywood records that Sultan broke just over five days in succession:
On the first day of its release Sultan minted a whooping 36.54 crore, but what sets apart the film from other s that the film released on a non-holiday and still managed to collect such a huge amount. Sultan released on July 6 which was earlier the day of Eid, but the film remained unaffected even after it opened on a non-holiday. As compared to Salman’s previous big film’s first day collection, Sultan though surpassed Bajrangi Bhaijaan (27.25 crore) collection, but it didn’t manage to collect like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (40.35 crore). Which stills makes Prem Ratan Dhan Payo the highest first day grosser, but having said that Sultan still managed to collect on a non-holiday.
Sultan managed to mint 36.54 crore on the first day of its release. On the second day, which was also the day of Eid, the film collected 37.32 crore. On third day which was a Friday the film minted 31.67 crore, on Saturday 36.62 crore, and on Sunday 38.21 crore. Bringing the weekend collection to a total 180.36 crore. Sultan broke the record set by Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which had earned a neat rs 129 cr in the first weekend. In fact Sultan surpassed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's first week collection of Rs 172.82 in the first weekend itself.
While the box office brouhaha has often been about the opening day collection, not many films manage to hold the business for over three days. Sultan however stands apart from the crowd, as it becomes the only film that has managed to score a Rs 30 cr plus figure for five consecutive days. Sultan hence bypasses PK, the only other film that managed Rs 30 cr plus for three days, by miles.
While other films slow down after reaching the 100 cr mark, Sultan continued it's sprint to reach ths 150 mark my the morning of the fifth day. Ths is the fastest a film has crossed the mark, surpassng films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Happy New Year and Dhoom 3. PK, Bollywood's highest box office grosser till date, had collected Rs 135 cr in as many days. Well, nobody doubted that the film will do well, but Sultan is breaking records and how. And that doesn't limit the film to just India, even overseas the film is doing extremely well with the audiences.
