Kapil Sharma along with his show Comedy Nights With Kapil became a household name from the very first day of it being aired on Colors. The journey had just began, raking in the highest TRPs, the show brought Kapil his first film, making him a name worldwide. With this Kapil also launched his production house K9, which later the Colors CEO said was launched with the help of the channel. The show left not only the country but countries into splits, so much so that tourists specially came to watch Kapil perform live. Everything seemed all hay-day, but soon rumours of a tiff between Kapil and the Colors team started doing rounds. While many wished it was all bogus, turn of events only made these rumours turn into reality.
Colors in the next few days launched another show to tickle our funny bones, Comedy Nights Bachao, which too became an instant hit. But this was one of the reasons for Kapil’s fall-out with Colors as he was dissatisfied as the theme of both the shows was similar. The news of CNWK ending had already hit the viewers; even a common ground between Kapil and Colors now seemed difficult. Many said that Kapil felt threatened of Krushna Abhishek and Bharti raking in good TRPs for Comedy Nights Bachao. But the reality was that both the shows, though cited be to different, had the same set of celebrities come for their film promotions.
A piece of news that got our ears ringing was of Kapil not being able to handle his stardom, creating even the more issues for the channel. Well the stage was set, and the carpet rolled out, but neither the channel nor Kapil could get themselves to solve the problem amicably.
Alas! The comedy show ended on a sad note. Viewers too were unhappy. Krushna now replaced Kapil in Comedy Nights and the raging rumours of a cold war between the two soon became front page news. Channel and Kapil both called it quits, and the disheartened audience could only hope for better.
And then just in time came an announcement of The Kapil Sharma Show soon to be aired on the Sony channel. The cast of the show was similar to that of CNWK. Ali Asgar, Kiku Sharda, Sunil Grover, Chandan Prabhakar, and Sumona Chakravarti joined in Kapil to make this show a hit. Not only had they had the cast together, even Navjot Singh Sidhu joined in to be seated as the permanent guest of the show.
Sounds similar to Comedy Nights With Kapil? Yes it is! Nothing has changed, it is so similar that instances from the previous show were also used during the first telecast they did along with Shah Rukh Khan. What better than Shah Rukh Khan to launch the first episode!
Ali Asgar plays nani instead of dadi that she played in CNWK, Sumona yet again plays Kapil’s love interest, and Sunil Grover like before is on a roll. So is The Kapil Sharma Show the CNWK just being aired on a different channel? Well for that we will have to watch the space for more. Till Kapil manages to leave us in splits, Colors or Sony the channel really doesn’t matter.
