With the whole country celebrating Raksha Bandhan, how can we not reminisce about the awesome sibling pairs that Bollywood has shown over the years. From the iconic brother-sister duo of Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman in 'Dum Maaro Dum' to the recent duo of Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh in 'Dil Dhadkane Do', here is a look back at the on-screen brother and sister duos of Bollywood who managed to win our hearts.
From playing on-screen lovers to siblings these two actors have beautifully managed to showcase the bond between siblings in Dil Dhadkan Do. Staying away from the cliched portrayal of brother-sister jodis in Bollywood, Kabir and Ayesha won people over with the very real enactment. From the silent understanding to chocolate-snatching fights, these two actors were perfect in their portrayal.
Though he may have been tiny, but Chintu personified but the indomitable spirit of the younger sibling. Though they may fight you, rat you out, or even hate you, but if someone hurts you, your younger sibling will ensure that they will have hell to pay. When Vijay breaks Rani's heart, Chintu is the first one to get angry and even threatens dire consequences for the man who broke his beloved didi's heart.
As the saying goes, 'Behind every successful man is a woman', and the bond shared by Isri and Milkha was the living example of that. They both were each other's backbone and stood up for other through all thick and thin. Who can forget the sheer joy that Isri felt when Milkha got the Indian coat, and the pride Milkha felt when Isri wore the earrings that he had bought for her.
She was not only his sister but also his best friend. So when priorities changed, and Aditi moved on and made other friends, Amit withdrew into a shell. Though he became aloof and snappy and kept on getting in petty fights with Aditi (and also Jay to an extent), he always wanted best for his sister. He was the first person to see through Sushant's farce and was instrumental in getting Aditi and Jay together.
Born with a difference of minute, Max and Shirley were not only twins but also best friends. Max exemplified the cool over-protective elder brother who would do everything to protect Shirley. With duo having no one but each other became each other's biggest and strongest support system.
The 'bade bhaiya' (Arbaaz Khan) practically raised Kajol and was both her mother and father. For Muskaan, Vishal bhaiya's opinion is the final. Vishal wanted to protect his little sister from the worst of the world and made her decisions for her and provided her with the best of best. So much so that the love of Muskaan's life could only be decided after Vishal's approval.
This whole beautifully showcases the journey of a brothers journey to get his sister back from the clutches of alcohol and drugs. Though the film ended on not a very positive note, it gave us the song that immortalises the brother-sister relationship, 'Phoolon ka taaron ka...'
