Every first Sunday of August celebrates the bond of friendship, and while we have enough time to send out messages to our near and dear friends, we as humans forget that their friendship beyond just us. And here we speak about the special bond between a human with an animal, of all they are the most loyal. And while we celebrate friendship tomorrow, here are films that proved animals to be a man’s best friend:
It is only recently that the film has released, and appreciation has just begun coming in. But what caught the fancy of the cine-goers was Bradman who took away all the limelight from the main characters. The dog, I'm sorry if people didn’t want me to call him that, has a very pivotal role in the film to play. It is because of a tracker device in his leash that leads Varun and John to find the kidnapped cricketer and the master mind behind the whole kidnapping. Bradman was absolutely cute and received so much love from the audience that the makers made sure he was present during a press conference arranged for the success of the film.
The only sane member in the Mehra family turned out to be the dog, Pluto Mehra, who even out did the way humans thought. Well, at least the voice over for the dog was done by Aamir Khan who is pretty much intelligent himself. Pluto could be seen bonding greatly with Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Anil Kapoor in the film as they play a dysfunctional family. And the narrative using his thoughts just added to the film becoming a favourite of the audience in a go.
The Akshay Kumar starrer was a comic film wherein he is fighting a claim to his father’s property against a dog named Entertainment. While Entertainment is not the types to give up, the banter leaves the audience not only entertained but also in splits. But a budding friendship between the two solves the purpose, and they together defeat the actual villains in the film. Entertainment, a Golden Retriever, is cuteness overload, and what adds to the film is that the Entertainment in many a occasion out does Akshay.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun revolved around the lives of two families who turn their friendship into rishteydari. Tuffy, the dog, is all you know responsible for Prem (Salman Khan) and Nisha’s (Madhuri Dixit) love affair turn into marriage. While the film has a smooth track between the two, series of incident lead to Nisha being married to her brother-in-law due to the untimely death of her sister. And while the two have a closed affair, it is because of Tuffy that the family realizes that Prem and Nisha were to sacrifice their love for the sake of their family. Oh! If it wasn’t for Tuffy, this film wouldn’t have had the happy ending like almost all Hindi films have.
The name in itself suggests a bond of friendship between a human and an elephant. The story more likely that of an orphan child being rescued by elephants and been brought up by them, later on only to entertain people to fend for himself. The real twist is when the boy grows up and eventually falls in love to get married to his lady love. His wife feels neglected with his bonding with his animal friends, and it begins to bother her. And while they eventually drift apart, it is finally the elephant Raja who tries to bring them back together.
Who doesn’t remember Basanti’s best friend Dhanno from Sholay?! Remember the first scene when Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra reach the village, and Hema Malini who owns a tanga gives them a ride, it just takes her a whip and a shout out to make Dhanno run her way through. In many a times the white ghodi came to the rescue of Basanti, as famously the Basanti calls out –‘Chal Dhanno, Aaj Teri Basabti Ki Izzat Ka Sawal Hai’.
Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon not only starrer the amazing pair of Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, but it also had a Cocker Spaniel and a CGI generated parrot to add to the drama. The CGI generated parrot was the life of the film as he almost said everything aloud and also added an element of humour in the film. Similarly, the bonding between Kareena and her dog beautifully portrayed a human-animal relationship, where she would often refer to him as a friend who listens to all her problems.
