Actresses have always dared to be different when it comes to their film choices, they are not afraid of the criticisms that come their way. They rather do things differently than be sidelined in a film with the actor bathing himself in the limelight for the success of the film. While many a stereotypical thoughts run through us when we refer to our actresses in Bollywood, we seldom realize that we have actresses who have experimented with the kind of roles they choose to do.
The news of Bhumi signing her career’s third film has sent the media into a tizzy. The excitement seems to be even more as she gears up to playing a grey character. The film titled Sejal Supari will see her play a contract killer, the film will mark her entry in the dark noir of cinema. While Bhumi had been successful in convincing the audience with her role in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, it will be a surprise to see in a negative role.
Madhuri Dixit’s role in Pukar was a negative one as she would do anything to get the attention of Anil Kapoor who she dearly loved, but towards the end she knows what she has gotten into and then is also ready to make things right for love. Madhuri and Anil are childhood friends and their family wants the two to get married, Madhuri has always harboured feelings for him whereas Anil falls in love with another girl. On finding out that Anil will not be marrying her, Madhuri plots revenge against him so that he loses his honour and the girl he loves will refuse to marry him, and the series of events will ultimately result in Madhuri and Anil ending up in matrimony.
Kajol in the film Gupt played a psychotic lover who would kill anybody who would come in the way of her and Sahil (Bobby Deol). There are many a mysterious deaths in the film, of which only the killer’s feet are shown and various indications are made as to who possibly can be the killer. The story takes quite an interesting turn when the audiences finally come to know that the actual murderer in the film is Kajol who killed people as she didn’t trust that she would be fortunate enough to be in Sahil’s life. Kajol in the end is shot by a Police officer played by Om Puri, and she embraces Sahil has she breathes her last.
Mentioning that Priyanka has always dared to be different would we like making a clichéd statement, her filmography suggest varied roles that only this stunning actor could pull it off with utmost sincerity. She in the beginning of her career chose to play a negative in Aitraaz where she played a lady boss who sexually harassed her employee (Akshay Kumar) with whom she also shares a history. Priyanks then blames him to have sexually harassed her only to lead the drama into a court battle where Akshay eventually wins with the lawyer representing him being his wife (Kareena Kapoor). She dared to take a risk in the initial phase of her career, and it speaks volume of where she stands today. But Aitraaz is not the only film where Priyanka played an antagonist, she played a rather crazed baddie in 7 Khoon Maaf, the film didn’t do too well but Priyanka outdid everyone to ever shine in the glory of her performance in the film.
Kareena Kapoor is not the name that pops up when one mentions a negative role, but this woman has broke all stereotypes when she played an antagonist in Fida. While many considered her just another pretty face in the industry, Kareena with her choice of roles proved that she too could be versatile in her choices. While Karrena’s role in Heroine is not as negative, her role in Fida was out-an-out that of a woman whose ruse was to con Shahid into putting himself at risk for the sake of another man she loved. The movie ends when Shahid seeks his revenge against the two, and shoots the very person he loved so much that he took the risk.
Jism, an erotic thriller which marked the debut of one of hottest jodis, Bipasha Basu and John Abraham, was one movie to watch out for. While Bipasha’s entry in the film industry dates back to 2001, but she ruled the thriller genre post the release of Raaz. It is ever since that Bipasha has rocked the thriller genre and aced it after doing back-to-back films in the same genre. The film has Bipasha play a woman who can do anything for money, she traps John in her love nest so as to convince him to kill her millionaire husband so that she could inherit his properties. John, for the plight of his love kills her husband only to find out in the end that Bipasha only love money and used him to acquire her husband’s property. He towards the end kills her and also succumbs to a bullet which Bipasha had shot him with to end the drama. Bipasha also played a negative role in her recent horror flick, Alone, in which she had a double role.
