I had just shifted to Bombay and I was immensely homesick and without any friends life was difficult and at that time I had befriended someone and that friend took me to Lonavala and I had no idea what Lonavala even was. I had bhutta sitting at tiger point and it was raining and that was the first few times I actually felt happy being away from home.
My favourite memory from monsoon is from the college days in Dehradun, when my friends and I bunked the classes for the whole day and drove 40 minutess on bikes, amidst heavy downpour, up to the hills of Mussoorie. We took hour long dips in the empty falls which actually resulted in us freezing blue, and then we hogged the famous cheese omelette on the mall road with chai to warm up the freezing hands. My favourite food for monsoon is actually home made ajwain-parantha with fresh cut mangoes, it's as desi as it can get. And one that I love even more and makes me drool is the malai ghewar from Delhi. Trust me I am such a monster for it that I don't share a single bite with anyone.
I love the rains in Mumbai and I don't think anyone would hate it. My favorite monsoon memory is long drive to Lonavala with a group of friends and singing to the old melodies of Amitabh Bachchan, Mohammad Rafi and some of the soft rain songs. Getting lost in the beauty of green hilly areas and cool breeze where at a point the fog covered the roads and nothing was visible the other side. I and my friends stopped by a cafe having hot pizza and masala chai.
I love rains very much the sweet smell of the soil during the first rains is so pleasant. I love the smell of sands, love to go on long drive I drive myself, love to hear good peppy music, fresh corn and hot chocolate.
There cannot be anything best then garam chai and garma garam pakora or samosa. Zara's and my relationship boomed in the monsoons of Lonavala. It was so beautiful and romantic.
My best memory is from Delhi when I was in Delhi and we had bunked college for a picnic in the rains. I had a blast eating whatever I could. I had hogged on sev puri and puri aloo.
I used to go on long drive in Kolkata my hometown with friends. Kolkata looks green in rains. I used to love the smell of wet soil. Drinking kadak chai and eating pakodas used to be fun.
I have been brought up in Bandra in Mumbai. Going to band stand and eating bhutta with hot chai used to be awesome. To see waves and high tides in rains is a good sight.
