Priyanka Chopra, a name that is not just nationally but even internationally acclaimed. There have been end number of instances of Priyanka making the country, and Bollywood feel proud of her being a part. Especially so because she has been recognized globally for her work that she did not only in India but also abroad, and it is her hard work that she attributes her success to. Her life is a tale of success every girl dreams to be a part of, an inspiration of sorts. But it is not just good decisions that make Priyanka the Icon she is today, it also involves the risk that she took, the lows in her lives, and even a few regrets too. But here she stands today as steady as a rock, and there have been difficulties, but these are the times when Priyanka dared to be different:
Priyanka’s choice of roles have always been different, she fits into many shoes and she does is quite well. Whether playing a romantic interest, or a cop in Don 2, 12 different characters in What’s Your Raashee?, or women on vengeance in Saat Khoon Maaf… Priyanka is known to have walk paths that no one else could. In an industry which accepts you on your number of hits and detracts you on your misses, Priyanka has even taken up films which challenge her. She trained for a rigorous four months for her role in Mary Kom, she played an autistic in Barfi!, she even attempted stunts for her role in Don 2. Action, romance, thriller, drama or comedy, Priyanka has always picked up roles that she thought were worth her time. And it is her choice of roles that make her the person she is today.
Not many tapped the international territory the way Priyanka did. Her first ever collaboration with the West was when she released her two singles internationally – In My City and Exotic. Her single In My City featured American rapper will. i. am, and the song was well received by the audiences abroad and back home. Her other single Exotic featured Pitbull, and the lyrics were a mix of Hindi and English. Exotic was going o be only in English, but Priyanka suggested that they add Hindi lyrics to it as she wanted some aspect to have her Indian identity to it. Way to go girl!
Priyanks had a budding film career here at home, she was doing awesomely well as far as her Bollywood career is concerned. Whether it was the Marathi mulgi in Kaminey or an autistic in Barfi!, Piyanka’s choice of roles have always been appreciated. She aced each one of them with ease. She was in the top league of actors, each of her characters equally substantial to her male counterparts. But with Priyanka one can expect the unexpected. ABC offered her a Television series based on an FBI agent where she would play the lead. And that is how Quantico happened for Priyanka. She took up the show even if that meant she had to let go off a few good projects back home and start a new with the audiences abroad.
It is not often that an actress who does lead role in films will agree to play a second heroine. It is something that actors and actresses refrain from as they feel the screen timing does make a difference with the audience. But she proved everybody wrong by taking up the role of Kashi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani. Even the title of which suggested that she would not have a very substantial role in the film. Many deemed the decision to be wrong, but Priyanka broke all stereotypes and still went ahead with the film. Ranveer Singh as Peshwa Bajirao and Deepika Padukone as Mastani did receive a lot of love from the audiences for their chemistry, but it was Priyanka’s character that took all the sympathy.
Actors getting into production may not sound different, nor difficult, but Priyanka is getting into production with regional films and not Bollywood. Many may deem that Priyanka could have easily got into producing Bollywood films, but instead Priyanka choose to put her monies into films that she thinks have a good storyline. She has invested in Marathi, Punjabi, and Bhjopuri films, one of each will be releasing soon. She is the producer for Bam Bam Bol Raha Hain Kashi (Bhojpuri), Ventilator (Marathi), and Ek Onkar (Punjabi). Through this she extends her support to the fabulous films that the regional cinema is making, but that people fail to recognize. And with this she also aims at uplifting the regional cinema which is catching space slowly, but steadily with the audiences.
Priyanka has been loved for attempting roles that one at first thought were risky, but yet proved to be her career best. And so is her role in Dwayne Johnson and Zac Effron starrer Baywatch. She plays a negative role in the film, an undisclosed mystery is built around her character. Since the announcement of her being a part of the film has been doing rounds, her part in the film is the most talked about and looked upon. Everyone wants to find out more as to what her character is in the film, but one will have to wait till a next announcement or till the film release to watch Priyanka in action.
