Zoya Akhtar is all set for her next venture ‘Gully Boys’ and the film will mark outing of a fresh pair of onscreen Jodi Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The actor will be seen playing the role of a rapper who lives in the slum of Mumbai but eventually makes it big in his life.
Ranveer Singh has been very experimental with the kind of characters he play onscreen. In this movie too, the actor will be seen playing the role of a rapper who writes song with messages addressing economic inequality, Dalit oppression, homosexuality and street life. The Ram-Leela actor have always expressed his interested in working with Zoya, only a film project was missing which will be fulfilled by this upcoming film.
As tentatively the movie is titled, the script is going is to very different from the usual love flicks. Ranveer will be seen rapping in Hindi, Marathi and Urdu. To get proper insight for the film, Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar have done research and even hung out with number of rappers. The story will derive inspiration from politically incorrect rappers like, Bangalore-based Brodha V aka Vignesh Shivanand, Kolkata-based Vik Sen aka Feyago, Muck Fodi (Ashwini Mishra) and few more.
A source close to the film spoke to the reporter stating, “, “The film is inspired by real life rappers like Divine and Naezy whose work has ranged from speaking about petty crimes in their respective Mumbai neighborhoods of Kurla and Andheri to sharing stories about finding a voice and becoming activists. It is an extremely ambitious project and will roll next year.”
