Movie Review

Is ‘Phillauri’ a movie that makes you believe in fairy-tales but with a twist? Does the Anushka Sharma aka Shashi the Ghost starrer ‘Phillauri’ has an engaging plot and even more, an entertaining execution to it? Well, all of these queries are easily sorted once you see the movie unfold right in front of you. We all have heard the tell-tales of our olders in family where a maangliik has to marry a tree first and the whom he or she has been chosen for (like by the family elders of course, most times!). And that is what exactly is seen on the silver screen in Phillauri, where there’s a maanglik guy, who marries a tree but the ghost who lives on it too and all that what takes its course after all!

The Plot:
‘Life of Pi’ actor Suraj Sharma plays Kanan, an NRI guy who turns out to be a 'manglik' and that’s why, he has to marry a tree to be considered fit for marriage with the girl whom he loves. But incidentally, Kanan finds out that his bride is the tree which actually is a ghost Shashi, played by Anushka Sharma, who has been living with unrequited love from the time of pre-Independance era. And someone has to set the wrongs right and Kanan and Shashi get on the task, with all the focus.

The Execution:
Phillauri is a supernatural comedy-drama and is a happy-spirited film after all. The presence of a ghost who is way too sweet to be a ghost, in the life of a human, playing his wife, and her love that was left incomplete- this all and more have entertaining quotient to it which the audience has loved instantly. Debutant director Anshai Lal has delivered a good movie altogether that gets the audience’s attention in a subte way and leaves them gratified! The on-screen chemistry of Anushka with both Suraj and Diljit wins your heart and makes you smile. A lot of Punjabi khaana-peena and naachna-gaana will keep you entertained with a lot of glee.

Acting Performances:
Anushka Sharma as the happy ghost Shashi can’t appear lovelier than this one. There’s no chance that one does not love Shashi right from the start till the end. Suraj Sharma marks his Bollywood debut with the movie and has shown that he has an inklings towards the Bollywood drama films and we want to see more of him sooner. Diljit Dosanjh is the man that Bollywood has gained in some time. After a brilliant debut with ‘Udta Punjab’, Diljit as Phillauri the singer is delightful to watch. The supporting cast supports extremely well.

Anushka Sharma’s second home production ‘Phillauri’ on its release at the box office shines, where it is being applauded for being lovely and charming and at the same time, brings the unbelievable to the silver screen.
